Dr. ELLEN WANG - Founder and CIO

Dr. Ellen Wang is the managing partner and chief investment officer at Academy Investment Management.  She is responsible for strategy development and portfolio management.

Prior to starting Academy in 2010, Dr. Wang was a senior portfolio manager at Clinton Group, a multi-strategy hedge fund based in New York.  From 2005 to 2009, Dr. Wang was in charge of running Clinton’s equity statistical arbitrage strategy and several stat-arb funds. Maximum gross exposure for the strategy was nearly $4 billion.  Dr. Wang joined Clinton Group in 1999 as a research analyst.

Dr. Wang received a PhD in Mathematics from Indiana University and a MS in Computational Finance from Carnegie Mellon University. 

 

WILLIAM TONKIN - Chief Technology officer

William Tonkin is a partner and chief technology officer at Academy Investment Management.  He is responsible for the design and development of Academy’s proprietary infrastructure, which includes automation, real-time monitoring and high-performance messaging systems.

Prior to starting at Academy, Mr. Tonkin had over twenty five years of experience designing trading, risk management, and back office systems for equity and fixed income businesses. He was a senior technologist at the Clinton Group from 2001 to 2010.  Prior to Clinton, he ran the software products business of TechHackers Inc., a technology company specializing in fixed income analytics for trading systems. Before joining TechHackers he was a floor trader on both the American Stock Exchange and the New York Cotton Exchange.

Mr. Tonkin holds a B.S. degree from Trinity College, Hartford.
