Dr. ELLEN WANG - Founder and CIO

Dr. Ellen Wang is the managing partner and chief investment officer at Academy Investment Management, a New York based global investment management firm she founded in 2010.  Academy specializes in statistical arbitrage investment strategies using highly computerized quantitative systems to seek to capture market anomalies.  During her more than 15 years of experience in the field, Dr. Wang has led her team to continually expand and enhance the reach of the strategies.  Academy’s current investment universe consists of nearly four thousand securities in 23 countries across six continents. In 2017, Dr. Wang was honored as a recipient of the 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds award.

Prior to founding Academy, Dr. Wang was a senior portfolio manager at Clinton Group.

Dr. Wang received a PhD in Mathematics from Indiana University and a MS in Computational Finance from Carnegie Mellon University.  

 

WILLIAM TONKIN - Chief Technology officer

William Tonkin is a partner and chief technology officer at Academy Investment Management.  He is responsible for the design and development of Academy’s proprietary infrastructure, which includes automation, real-time monitoring and high-performance messaging systems.

Prior to starting at Academy, Mr. Tonkin had over twenty five years of experience designing trading, risk management, and back office systems for equity and fixed income businesses. He was a senior technologist at the Clinton Group from 2001 to 2010.  Prior to Clinton, he ran the software products business of TechHackers Inc., a technology company specializing in fixed income analytics for trading systems. Before joining TechHackers he was a floor trader on both the American Stock Exchange and the New York Cotton Exchange.

Mr. Tonkin holds a B.S. degree from Trinity College, Hartford.
